Process Control Engineering Intern at Cleveland-Cliffs in Dearborn, MI

Summary: Cleveland-Cliffs is the largest flat-rolled steel company and the largest iron ore pellet producer in North America. As a Process Control Engineering Intern, you will work on various projects that involve software development, automation system maintenance, and process modeling, while gaining valuable experience in the steel industry. Responsibilities: - Software development in a variety of programming languages and on a variety of hardware platforms - Maintenance of computer hardware and software - Maintenance and problem solving of all aspects of the automation system - Modifications to the automation system to adapt to new products and processes - Address issues that may impact production or system reliability - Process modeling for mill processes of a chemical, metallurgical and mechanical nature - Administration of a variety of Operating Systems and relational databases on workstations and servers - Work with complex measurement systems, such as: - Vision systems for product quality - Thermal imaging temperature measurements - RFID and barcode tag reading for product identification - X-ray, nuclear gauges, and other gauging systems - Work with networking technologies, high-speed data transmission, and specialty interfaces - Close coordination with a production department - Respond to routine and emergency requests - Manage local area project, task, and priority lists - Make recommendations for system and process improvements - Work with vendors on products and performance issues - Coordinating with Research and Development and other staff departments Required Qualifications: - Enrollment in Bachelor of Science program in the field of Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or other related technical degree - Completion of sophomore year of study by the summer of 2026 - Currently legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis Required Skills: Software development, Process modeling Important Skills: Computer hardware maintenance, Automation system problem solving, Networking technologies Nice-to-Have Skills: Team coordination, Vendor management Benefits: Competitive pay with variable compensation opportunity, Health insurance, Retirement plan, Education assistance, Paid time off
