Forward Deployed Engineer at Clera in New York City, NY

ABOUT THE ROLE This is a founding Forward Deployed Engineer role at an early-stage data infrastructure startup, sitting at the intersection of customer success and engineering. You'll be the primary technical bridge between the company's largest customers and its product team — owning complex scraping and data extraction challenges end-to-end while helping define a function from the ground up. WHAT YOU'LL DO - Work directly with key customers to understand and solve their web scraping and data extraction challenges. - Own customer requests end-to-end, driving outcomes that measurably improve satisfaction and retention. - Manage and support a team of scraping engineers who build and maintain data pipelines for customers. - Surface direct customer context and feedback to the core engineering team to influence the product roadmap. - Define and scale the Forward Deployed Engineer function as the company grows. WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR - 3+ years of professional engineering experience building and shipping software systems. - 1+ years of direct customer-facing technical work — solutions engineering, technical account management, sales engineering, or equivalent. - Hands-on experience building, debugging, and maintaining web scraping or data extraction infrastructure at scale. - Proficiency with scraping frameworks such as Selenium, Puppeteer, BeautifulSoup, Scrapy, or similar tools. - Familiarity with bot detection evasion, request infrastructure, or anti-scraping mitigation techniques. - Demonstrated ability to manage or mentor engineers, translating customer needs into technical requirements. - Track record of improving NPS, customer satisfaction, or sales velocity through technical delivery. - Experience at an early-stage or growth-stage startup (Series A or earlier preferred). - Background working with data-focused buyers — investment analysts, heads of data, or founders — is a strong plus. - Experience with data quality assurance, validation pipelines, or structured data delivery is a bonus. COMPENSATION & BENEFITS Salary: $140,000 – $160,000 USD annually. Visa sponsorship is not available for this role. LOCATION On-site in New York City, NY. Candidates must be based in or willing to relocate to NYC.
