Summary: The City and County of Denver is seeking a qualified candidate for the Staff Accountant position within the Denver Fire Department. This role involves performing professional-level governmental accounting work to support the Department’s Wildland Firefighting Program, including processing billing, payroll, and financial reporting. Responsibilities: - Tracks, reviews, and processes billing and reimbursements for Wildland firefighting deployments - Processes and reconciles overtime and payroll entries related to Wildland deployments - Reviews and reconciles Wildland travel reimbursements in compliance with City and County of Denver fiscal rules and the State of Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control guidelines - Performs daily, weekly, and monthly reconciliations of revenue generated by the Wildland Billing Program - Prepares financial reports for management review - Develops and maintains databases, spreadsheets, and records; analyzes data to identify discrepancies and reports findings to leadership - Provides backup support for other Fire Department finance functions Required Qualifications: - At least one (1) year of professional accounting experience, including payroll and general ledger reconciliation - Education requirement: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration - Experience Requirement: None - Education/Experience Equivalency: No substitution of experience for education is permitted - Strong customer service and communication skills - High level of accuracy with exceptional attention to detail - Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving abilities Preferred Qualifications: - Experience in governmental or nonprofit accounting preferred - Working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) Required Skills: Governmental accounting, Payroll reconciliation, General ledger reconciliation, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Financial reporting, Data analysis, Spreadsheet development
