Job Description
Summary: CIBC is building a relationship-oriented bank and is seeking an Analyst for their Industrials Group. The role involves executing investment banking mandates, conducting industry research, and preparing client proposals while supporting senior colleagues in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in executing all facets of the group’s mandates
- Conduct industry research and analysis to assist in the identification and/or analysis of investment banking business opportunities
- Play a key role in the preparation of client proposals, “pitchbooks” and the execution of new and existing client mandates:
- Develop and audit sophisticated financial models
- Participate in cross functional teams and liaising with other units of CIBC Capital Markets in executing mandates or preparing proposals for clients
- Prepare industry and financial analysis to assist with the development of client recommendations
- Lead industry comparable value and transaction precedent analyses
- Assist in company due diligence investigations
- Support senior investment banking colleagues
- Take advantage of in depth technical and industry knowledge, as well as the geopolitical environment to generate transaction ideas/opportunities that can be discussed with the relevant relationship manager and deal/coverage teams
- Grow your internal and external networks by participating in the following activities:
- Coordinating client-focused and/or deal-focused “brainstorming” sessions with relevant team members and product specialists
- Liaising with other units of CIBC Capital Markets in preparing proposals for clients
- Developing relationships and actively communicating with various appropriate contacts at our clients
- Developing and maintaining an internal network with product groups and other business groups
- Developing and maintaining an external network with the market (i.e. key stakeholders, clients, prospects, etc.)
- Supporting CIBC’s “Culture of Care” through involvement in community activities
- Provide a broad range of analytical, research and presentation preparation support to all the professionals within their group
- Maintain an awareness of our clients, industry, regulatory issues and relevant economic/political trends
- Applying your strengths in quantitative analysis to create and direct complex financial analysis and models while extracting the “big picture” implications of such analysis
Required Qualifications:
- Successful completion of an undergraduate degree
- A minimum of 0 to 3 years of previous experience in investment banking
- Experience must have included meaningful financial modeling and analysis
- Excellent analytical ability including demonstrated knowledge of valuation techniques and practices, including cash flow and returns analyses
- Knowledge of accounting principles relating to financial statement preparation and business combinations
- Strong quantitative technical skills as it relates to basic computer applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), industry technology (FactSet, Bloomberg) and other applicable software
- Well-developed interpersonal and relationship building skills in order to develop, manage and leverage relationships with clients, and internal and/or external business partners
- Well-developed written and verbal communication skills sufficient to provide detailed explanation and interpretation of factual and conceptual information and ideas related to complex technical and conceptual issues
- Unquestioned professionalism, ethics and reputation and proven ability to exercise strong independent judgment when making business decisions and/or representing CIBC Capital Markets
- Extremely dedicated and motivated individual with high career aspirations
- Must be capable of assuming high levels of responsibility within short time frames
- Strong prioritization and multi-tasking capabilities
- Ability to maintain an awareness of clients, industry, regulatory issues and relevant economic/political trends
