Job Description
Chord is seeking a Senior Planning Engineer to manage the corporate forecast models within the Corporate Planning Group. This high-profile individual contributor role shapes how Chord plans and where capital is allocated, with real latitude to improve the process itself as the organization grows. Located in Houston, TX, with a hybrid schedule for remote work on Mondays and Fridays. Level and salary commensurate with experience.
Essential Job Functions
Coordinate updates to the short-term outlook model (monthly) and long-term net asset value model (quarterly) and communicate key metrics and changes effectively to upper management. This equips leadership to confidently share expectations publicly and ensures deliverability by collaborating with stakeholders to identify risk and optionality.
Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders across the organization: staying in tune with the pulse of the business, serving as a trusted economic and strategic advisor, and providing accountability to the plan.
Contribute to the ongoing modernization and optimization of the planning process: redesigning workflows, eliminating manual steps, and building tools that make each forecast cycle sharper.
Apply Python, Snowflake SQL, and AI tools such as Claude to automate analysis, interrogate large datasets, and turn ambiguous questions into defensible answers. Existing expertise is welcome; curiosity and a willingness to learn matter more.
Take on complex, open-ended business problems where the answer is not in a template, and influence decisions that carry real financial impact.
Chord invests in continuous learning. Employees have access to Data Camp for structured training in Python, SQL, and analytics, and the AI & Data Analytics team partners directly with the business to build and scale solutions. Engineers at Chord are encouraged to experiment, automate, and challenge the status quo.
Key skills include excellent communication, attention to detail, project management, collaboration across multi-disciplined teams, cultural leadership, and an ability to see the broader impact of decisions and events.
This job description is not intended to be an all-inclusive list of duties and responsibilities of the position. Incumbents will be required to follow any other job-related instructions and duties outside of their normal responsibilities as assigned by their supervisor.

3+ years in a Reservoir, Development, or Planning role
