Pediatric Hospitalist
About the Opportunity
Centra is seeking a Board Certified/Board Eligible Pediatric Hospitalist to serve as a Pediatric Hospitalist at Lynchburg General Hospital. The Pediatric Center is a 13-bed pediatric unit providing 24/7 family-centered care for children through age 18.
Compensation: $210,000/annually
You Can Expect
- Provide inpatient pediatric care, including daily rounds, admissions, discharges, and consultations.
- Typically manage 1–3 daytime admissions and 1–2 overnight admissions.
- Provide pediatric consultations to the Emergency Department, other specialties, and community providers.
- Collaborate with 24/7 Family Medicine resident coverage.
- Teach and mentor residents, medical students, PA students, APPs, and other learners.
- Provide newborn nursery supervision and support newborn follow-up, including bilirubin clinic.
- No delivery coverage required; circumcision is optional.
- Opportunity to perform pediatric sedation if desired.
- No routine in-house overnight requirement; approximately 30-minute response expectation when on call.
- Work 10 clinical shifts per month.
- Care for a diverse pediatric population including respiratory and viral illnesses, infections, postoperative surgical and orthopedic patients, hyperbilirubinemia, and other common pediatric conditions.
- Access to local pediatric subspecialists and ground/air transport to tertiary pediatric centers.
- Dedicated pediatric emergency department pod.
Required Qualifications
- Board Certified or Board Eligible in Pediatrics through the American Board of Pediatrics (ABP) or equivalent.
- Eligible for Virginia medical licensure.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Responsibilities
Examines patient to obtain information on medical condition and risk
Prescribes or administers treatment, therapy, medication, vaccination, and other specialized medical care to treat or prevent illness, disease, or injury
Makes referrals to other physicians, specialists, therapists or hospitals when appropriate
Orders, performs, and interprets tests and analyze records, reports, and examination information to diagnose patients' condition
Collects, records, and maintains patient information, such as medical history, reports, and examination results
Analyzes patient's medical history to verify medical necessity and to determine best procedure and/or recommendations
Monitor patients' conditions and progress and reevaluate treatments as necessary
Explains procedures and discuss test results or prescribed treatments with patients
Designs individualized care plans, using a variety of treatments
Meets or exceeds CMS requirements and requirements all other applicable regulatory requirements and standards
Dictates and completes charting in electronic medical reports per Centra policy
Performs all aspects of professional services for assigned service as required
Other duties as assigned
In addition to the above, Lynchburg Family Medicine Residency Faculty will:
Prepares and delivers educational lectures to residency students in both conference settings and in individual sessions at the bedside
Prepares materials for laboratory activities and course materials, such as syllabi, homework assignments, and handouts
Maintains student attendance records, grades, and other required records
Evaluates and grades students' class work, practicum work, laboratory work, assignments, and papers
Assists with developing residency curriculum including rotation schedules, educational goals, and objectives
Qualifications
Required Education: Completion of medical degree and residency training in a primary care specialty from an American Medical Association- (AMA) approved program or other schools with credentials approved by the Medical Staff and Board of Centra.
Required Certifications and Licensures: MD/DO with certification by an American Board of Medical Specialists (ABM) board in physician's primary specialty.
