What will you be doing in this role?
Under the direct supervision of the Nutrition Services Supervisor, the FSW I will perform duties related to patient food service, trayline, dish duties, and sanitation.
In addition, the Food Service Worker I will be responsible for the following:
- Wash patient dishes, trays pots, and pans
- Mopping floors
- Distribute meal carts to nursing units for nursing staff to pass trays to patients
- Collect trays from units
- Restocking pantry, storeroom, freezer, and refrigerator
- Other duties as assigned

Tuition Reimbursement: Repays up to $600 per calendar year for fees expended to attend a job-related seminar, licensure renewal (if mandated by job description), workshop, conference, individual course, or other training programs.
Tuition Loan: Provides up to $2,000 per calendar year for approved formal certificate or degree programs including prerequisites for approved degree programs. A tuition loan and reimbursement may, with appropriate approvals, be combined for a maximum of $2,600.
Critical Pipeline Loan: Tuition loans up to $5,250 for specific degree programs at approved, accredited schools identified by the organization. This program is for attaining the designated health science degrees.
- Employees may have their loans Forgiven if they continue eligible employment for 12 months after completion of the term for which the loan was given
Hours: 6 a.m. Morning and 6 p.m. Night Shifts, with Weekend Coverage
Responsibilities
- Prepares food trays for general and therapeutic diets. Prepares and delivers items as requested by patient care units or patients.
- Maintains tray line in a clean, neat and organized manner. Prepares special diet foods as necessary.
- Delivers food carts to patient care units. Returns carts to kitchen at designated times.
- Washes dishes, operates dish machine. Washes specified items by hand, i.e., pots, pans, knives.
- Disposes of trash and garbage in appropriate manner and as needed. Puts clean dishes and utensils away.
- Mops floors as scheduled and as necessary. Cleans walk-in refrigerators and storage areas. Performs special cleaning duties as assigned by the Nutritional Services Director/ Supervisor.
- Assists in preparing salads, desserts, and nourishments.
- Maintains a good working relationship both within the department and with other departments.
- Follow policies and procedures for infection control and facility safety in accordance with regulatory guidelines. Adapts to changes in the unit as required. Treats patients and families with respect and dignity.
- Observes infection control practices at all times.
- Participates in departmental performance improvement activities.
- Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
Qualifications
Education
- High School Diploma/GED High School Diploma/General Equivalency Diploma (GED) - preferred
Experience
- 1 year minimum of 1-2 years of food service experience - preferred
Licenses and Certifications
- Upon Hire, Servsafe Food Handler Card through the National Restaurant Association - required
