Reports To: Head Wrestling Coach & Director of Athletics Position Overview Marian Central Catholic High School is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Assistant Wrestling Coach to support the development of student-athletes within a competitive, faith-centered athletic environment. The ideal candidate will assist with all aspects of the wrestling program, including instruction, training, supervision, and the mentorship of student-athletes. This position requires strong character, clear communication, and a commitment to fostering a positive culture aligned with the mission of Marian Central Catholic. Primary Responsibilities Coaching & Instruction Assist the Head Coach with planning and conducting daily practices, drills, and conditioning sessions. Teach proper wrestling techniques, fundamentals, and strategies appropriate for all levels of experience. Support individualized athlete development, including skill assessment and ongoing improvement plans. Promote safe participation, proper warm-ups, and injury-prevention practices. Program Support Help establish and maintain a culture rooted in sportsmanship, respect, accountability, and Marian Central Catholic values. Maintain equipment, mats, and practice spaces; assist with setup and takedown for practices and matches. Participate in meet-day responsibilities, including weigh-ins, athlete supervision, scoring tables, lineup management, and travel logistics. Student-Athlete Development Serve as a positive role model who demonstrates professionalism, integrity, and leadership at all times. Mentor student-athletes in academic success, personal growth, and responsible conduct on and off the mat. Reinforce expectations related to team rules, school policies, and behavioral standards. Communication & Collaboration Work closely with the Head Coach, Athletic Director, and school staff to ensure smooth program operations. Maintain effective communication with athletes and families as directed by the Head Coach. Attend all scheduled practices, meets, team events, and required coaches’ meetings. Requirements Qualifications Prior wrestling experience as an athlete or coach required; high school or college experience preferred. Demonstrated understanding of wrestling fundamentals, IHSA rules, and safe coaching techniques. Ability to build positive relationships with student-athletes of varying skill levels. Strong organizational ability and dependability. Must complete all Diocese of Rockford employment requirements, including Safe Environment training, background checks, and certification. CPR/AED certification (or willingness to obtain). Desired Attributes Passion for teaching the sport of wrestling in a mission-driven Catholic school setting. High energy, patience, and the ability to motivate student-athletes. Commitment to teamwork and supporting the vision of the Head Wrestling Coach. Professional communication skills with students, families, officials, and school personnel. Work Schedule Season runs approximately November through February. Afternoon/evening practices, weekend tournaments, and travel as scheduled. Additional off-season work may be available but is not required.
