Job Description
Summary: MSM Industries is a trusted partner to the U.S. Navy and specializes in advanced material solutions for aerospace and defense. They are seeking driven Engineering Interns for a 10-week hands-on internship program focused on precision manufacturing operations, allowing interns to support critical manufacturing processes and contribute to ongoing operational initiatives.
Responsibilities:
- Support manufacturing and process engineers in the production of precision-machined components for aerospace and defense applications
- Assist in developing, improving, and documenting manufacturing processes, including CNC machining, assembly, and inspection workflows
- Analyze production data to identify inefficiencies, scrap drivers, and opportunities for yield improvement
- Collaborate with quality teams on root cause analysis and corrective actions for non-conformances
- Review and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and technical specifications
- Contribute to tooling, fixturing, and workholding design improvements
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives aligned with lean manufacturing principles
- Assist with first article inspections (FAI), validation activities, and process qualification efforts
Required Qualifications:
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related discipline
- Strong interest in precision manufacturing, machining, and aerospace/defense production environments
- Basic understanding of engineering drawings and GD&T principles
- Familiarity with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks) and Microsoft Office tools
- Analytical mindset with strong problem-solving skills
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, hands-on, team-oriented environment
- Must be able to commit to a full-time, 10-week onsite internship in Riverside, CA
Preferred Qualifications:
- Exposure to CNC machining, CAM programming, or shop floor environments
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement methodologies
- Experience with metrology tools (calipers, micrometers, CMM, etc.)
- Understanding of aerospace quality standards (e.g., AS9100)
