Security Engineer Intern at Calix in Canada

Summary: Calix is looking for a Summer intern to join their Security Engineering team. This role offers hands-on experience in cloud security, vulnerability management, threat detection, and automation, with a focus on leveraging AI to enhance security posture. Responsibilities: - Research, design and implement Proof of Concepts for AI platforms, tools and services that will directly streamline and improve the outcomes and results of the following security activities: - Detection & Response: Determine how AI can be used to define and tune detection capabilities to identify malicious activity in our Cloud environments - Threat Modeling & Vulnerability Management: Explore how AI help remediate risks before they occur and prevent vulnerability exploitation - Automation & Scripting: Evaluate how AI can automate security processes, reducing manual chores and improving efficiency - Cloud & Infrastructure Security: Determine how AI can secure public cloud environments (e.g., AWS, GCP) and hybrid infrastructures while ensuring compliance with standards - Security Operations: Evaluate how AI can be used to analyze complex log data in real time to detect never before seen attacks - Documentation: Document all research, proof of concept implementations and generate a final recommendation report for each AI tool, service or platform investigated Required Qualifications: - Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Cybersecurity, or a related technical field - Foundational understanding of OS internals (Linux/Windows), network protocols (TCP/IP), and cloud security principles - Ability to read and write scripts in a modern language (Python preferred, PowerShell/Bash) - Experience in 'labs'—whether that's network simulators, personal projects, or cybersecurity 'Capture the Flag' (CTF) platforms - Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, and communication skills, with an eagerness to learn in a fast-paced environment - Able to work for the complete summer break (May - August or June - September) Preferred Qualifications: - Familiarity with security tools (e.g., SIEM, EDR, Wireshark, Nessus, Splunk) - Relevant industry certifications (e.g., CompTIA Security+) Required Skills: OS internals, Linux, Windows, Network protocols, TCP/IP, Cloud security, Python, PowerShell, Bash, Security tools, SIEM, EDR, Wireshark, Nessus, Splunk, CompTIA Security+
