Job Description
Summary: Cabot Corporation is a leading global specialty chemicals and performance materials company headquartered in Boston, Massachusetts. They are seeking a motivated technical intern for their Battery Materials Group to assist in developing advanced conductive additives for lithium-ion batteries, providing hands-on experimental support and product characterization for key projects.
Responsibilities:
- Assist with the planning and execution of experiments to produce high quality lithium-ion battery electrode slurries and coatings with various conductive additives
- Assist in the characterization of slurry and electrode properties, including rheology, stability, morphology, peel strength, resistivity, etc
- May be trained to produce battery cells to evaluate electrochemical cell performance
- Analyze experimental data, generate reports, and present results to the R&D team
- Document results in a final presentation or research report at the end of the internship
Required Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in undergraduate/or graduate program in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
- University-level experience in a laboratory environment
- Strong focus on lab and chemical safety, basic chemical safety training experience preferred
- Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and willingness to learn
- Experience writing formal laboratory reports
- Computer skills (MS-Excel, PowerPoint)
- 10-12 week commitment
Preferred Qualifications:
- Relevant coursework in materials engineering, chemistry, or chemical engineering
- Familiarity with carbon additives (carbon black, carbon nanotubes, etc.)
- Understanding of or experience with materials testing, electrode preparation, or electrochemical techniques (cycling tests, CV, EIS)
