Apply Description The Senior Accountant performs advanced accounting work and provides oversight into complex financial processes. This role serves as a technical expert and mentor within the accounting team, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency in financial reporting, reconciliations, and operational workflows. Works independently under general supervision and provides guidance to junior staff. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: General Accounting & Financial Reporting Prepare and review complex journal entries and reconciliations for high-risk or high-volume accounts. Assist with preparation of financial statements and supporting schedules. Perform monthly fixed asset reconciliations and schedules. Support fiscal year-end closing processes and account clean-up. Analyze cash flow and identify irregularities or risks. Investigate discrepancies and ensure timely resolution and documentation. Tax Roll & Distributions Reconcile and distribute ad valorem taxes, non-ad valorem assessments, and investment earnings to taxing authorities. Balance the tax roll and prepare the annual recapitulation report. Process prior year corrections, individual certificate redemptions, and related invoices. Audit & Internal Controls Prepare audit confirmations and respond to auditor requests. Maintain internal control documentation and ensure SOP compliance. Assist in updating SOPs for accounting processes. Staff Support & Development Provide guidance and training to accounting staff on reconciliations, reporting, and system usage. Act as a resource for escalations and complex accounting issues. Support onboarding of new staff and mentor team members. System Implementation & Process Improvement Participate in system upgrades, testing, and workflow design. Identify process inefficiencies and recommend improvements. Collaboration & Support Coordinate with internal teams, municipalities, and external partners on financial matters. Prepare written correspondence and assist with special projects as needed. Requirements QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or related field. Minimum of 3–5 years of progressive accounting experience, including financial reporting, reconciliations, and analysis. Strong knowledge of GAAP and internal controls. Advanced proficiency in accounting systems and Microsoft Excel. CRITICAL COMPETENCIES FOR SUCCESS: Financial Acumen: Applies key financial indicators to make sound decisions.
