Job Description:
The Community Liaison Officer (CLO) will serve as the primary interface between bp Trinidad and Tobago (bpTT) and the fenceline communities in Mayaro, Guayaguayare, and surrounding areas. The CLO will foster trust, strengthen relationships, and facilitate effective communication and collaboration, ensuring community concerns are proactively addressed and aligned with bpTT’s strategic objectives and values.
Key Responsibilities
Stakeholder Engagement and Relationship Management:
Serve as the primary contact point for community members, local leaders, and community-based organizations within Mayaro, Guayaguayare, and environs.
Proactively build and maintain positive, transparent, and respectful relationships with stakeholders through consistent and meaningful engagement.
Communication and Advocacy:
Clearly and effectively communicate bpTT’s initiatives, projects, and operational activities to local communities.
Actively listen to community feedback and ensure concerns are documented, raised appropriately, and addressed promptly.
Advocate for community needs internally within bpTT, ensuring community perspectives are considered in company decision-making.
Community Development and Social Investment:
Collaborate with the C&EA Advisors and Head of C&EA to develop and implement impactful community investment strategies and projects aligned with bpTT’s social performance goals.
Monitor, evaluate, and report on the efficiency of community initiatives, making recommendations for continuous improvement.
Conflict Resolution and Issue Management:
Proactively identify potential community grievances or concerns and develop effective mitigation strategies.
Facilitate timely resolution of conflicts through constructive dialogue and engagement with internal teams and external stakeholders.
Compliance and Reporting:
Ensure compliance with bpTT’s corporate social responsibility policies, community engagement standards, and applicable regulations.
Regularly document and report community engagement activities, issues raised, and resolutions achieved to management.
Qualifications and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Communications, Public Relations, Community Development, or related fields.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in community relations, stakeholder engagement, social work, or related fields.
Familiarity and strong understanding of Mayaro, Guayaguayare, and surrounding communities.
Demonstrated experience managing sensitive stakeholder relationships and community-based projects.
Skills and Competencies
Outstanding interpersonal, negotiation, and communication skills.
Proven ability to handle sensitive and confidential information diplomatically.
Strong problem-solving abilities and conflict-resolution skills.
Effective project management and organizational skills.
Proficiency in local cultural awareness and sensitivity.
Proficient in preparing clear, concise reports and presentations.
Working Conditions
Field-based role requiring frequent travel within Mayaro, Guayaguayare, and surrounding areas.
Flexibility in working hours to accommodate community meetings and events outside regular business hours.
