Job Description
Internal Auditor
Location: Brisbane Office - Newstead Village
About the role
As an Internal Auditor, you will play a key role in supporting the delivery of the Group Internal Audit Plan, contributing to high quality, risk focused audit engagements across BOQ Group. Working within a structured audit methodology, you will perform audit fieldwork and assess the design and operating effectiveness of risk management practices and internal controls. This role provides valuable exposure to a broad range of business areas while delivering independent and objective assurance that strengthens governance and supports better business outcomes.
In this role, you will undertake audit planning and fieldwork activities under guidance, including walkthroughs, process mapping, test planning and execution. You will gather and document sufficient and reliable audit evidence, evaluate control effectiveness, and identify exceptions through detailed analysis. Partnering with stakeholders across the business, you will communicate findings, validate results, and contribute to root cause analysis to help shape practical and meaningful audit observations and recommendations.
Beyond delivery, you will support audit reporting and issue management by drafting clear, concise content and tracking remediation actions through to closure. You will also contribute to continuous improvement within the function, including enhancing audit tools and templates, leveraging basic analytics and building your professional capability through ongoing development. This is an excellent opportunity to grow your audit expertise while playing a tangible role in improving risk awareness and control maturity across the organisation.
About you
You will bring a relevant tertiary qualification in accounting, finance, business, commerce, economics or a related discipline, along with some exposure to audit, risk, compliance, finance or operational environments whether through graduate experience or early career roles. A foundational understanding of risk and internal controls is essential, complemented by a strong desire to deepen your knowledge of banking products, processes and regulatory requirements. Progress toward, or interest in, a professional certification such as CA, CPA or CIA will be highly regarded.
You are detail-oriented and analytical, with the ability to interpret information, identify anomalies and document your work clearly and logically. You communicate with confidence and professionalism, building effective stakeholder relationships while managing competing priorities and delivering to agreed timeframes. With strong integrity and discretion, you handle sensitive information appropriately and demonstrate a proactive learning mindset, continuously seeking to improve. You are comfortable using Office 365 tools, with exposure to data analytics technologies advantageous, and have an interest in leveraging AI and automation to enhance audit effectiveness.
