Patient Care Specialist- Laboratory

Responsibilities:

1. Direct calls to the lab personnel, screen calls, and take appropriate messages.
2. Forward all calls with in-coming test results to laboratory technologists.
3. Interact with all patients, providers, co-workers, and the general public in a pleasant and professional manner
4. Obtains, enters and verifies patient demographics and insurance information at patient arrival.
5. Enter laboratory orders into laboratory information system (LIS)
6. Verify orders with referring providers as needed.
7. Update Consent for Treatment dates in EMR as needed.
8. Process reports and requests coming into the lab from physician offices and outside labs.
9. Become familiar with CPT and ICD-10 codes and the charging of patients for testing done by the lab.
10. Perform other clerical duties to assist in the operation of the laboratory as needed.
11. Maintain a satisfactory working relationship with co-workers and others in the Clinic.
12. Adhere to Universal Precautions rules and regulations and safety and infection control policies and procedures.
13. Work independently and under general and minimal supervision.
14. Maintain standing orders for frequently accessed patients from outside agencies.
15. Complies with all BWC policies

Minimum Qualifications:

1. High school diploma or equivalent.
2. Ability to perform and maintain consistent work flow in busy high-pressure environment.
3. Possess excellent communication skills both written and oral.
4. Experience in a medical office or laboratory setting preferred.
