Job Description
Summary: BMO U.S. is a financial institution offering a co-op/intern program designed for students to gain hands-on experience in IT operations and application support. As an Application Support Intern, you will work closely with experienced engineers to help maintain critical business applications and participate in incident management activities.
Responsibilities:
- Assist with monitoring and supporting production applications to ensure system availability and performance
- Participate in incident management activities, including triage, investigation, and documentation
- Help analyze application logs, alerts, and metrics to identify issues and trends
- Support service request fulfillment and basic troubleshooting tasks under supervision
- Document known issues, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and runbooks
- Collaborate with development, infrastructure, and QA teams during issue resolution
- Learn and follow ITIL / operational best practices (incident, problem, and change management)
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, automation ideas, or process enhancements
- Broader work or accountabilities may be assigned as needed
Required Qualifications:
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical field
- Basic understanding of operating systems (Linux and/or Windows) and networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, HTTP, DNS – basic level)
- Willingness to learn and work in a production support environment
- Understanding of Information Technology operating processes used for systems to ensure effective delivery including but not limited to IT Operations mandatory operating standards for monitoring, logging, and alerting
- Knowledge of support and operations practice, concepts, and technology obtained through formal training and/or work experience
- Technical and/or business functional knowledge of systems, tools, timing, and dependencies
- Specialized knowledge from education and/or business experience
