General Summary Responsible for the strategic implementation of South Texas Blood & Tissue’s hospital development and community outreach services for tissue donation within assigned service area.

Collaborates with partner procurement agencies to ensure seamless delivery of tissue referral, consent, recovery, and donor family followup processes.

The incumbent is expected to grow, develop, and improve this program with a focus on maximizing opportunities for tissue donation and promoting tissue donation awareness and education to hospital staff and the community. Support, communicate and reinforce the mission and vision of the enterprise. Provide world class customer service by capturing and being responsive to the voice of the customer (internal or external, including donors for select positions) through multiple feedback channels in order to resolve issues and drive satisfaction in accordance with the BBG customer engagement, feedback, and complaint processes. It is essential that the incumbent have a valid driver's license and be at least 18 years old with a good driving record to meet organization driving standards.

Major Duties and Responsibilities Essential Tasks Identifies key decision makers to establish and maintain contractual relationships with assigned hospitals for tissue recovery services. Develops relationships in the local and regional markets to increase expand the potential donor referral base for cadaveric tissue donation and provide support to Cord Blood and Birth Tissue Program. Conducts educational activities for appropriate hospital staff regarding the hospital’s role in the donor referral process, including, but not limited to: in‐services, staff orientations, and skills fairs. Follows up on referral variances from assigned hospitals and conducts refresher education for facility staff, as needed, to prevent recurrence of variances. Conducts rounding on referring patient units within assigned hospitals on a regular basis (including weekend and night shifts). Evaluates effectiveness of hospital’s donation program through use of death record and compliance reviews. Provides referral outcome data on a periodic basis (as determined by hospital) for all referral facilities within assigned service area. Participates in hospital performance improvement (PI) committees, where applicable, to improve donation

Education

Requires a high school diploma or general equivalency diploma.

Preferably a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four-year college or university. Licenses and/or Certifications Valid United States Driver’s License Certified Tissue Bank Specialist preferred

Experience

Requires three or more years of experience in marketing, health education, public relations, or non‐profit. Requires public speaking experience. Prefer two or more years of experience in a hospital setting and/or tissue bank. Background in staff training and education helpful. In some cases, an equivalency, consisting of a combination of appropriate education, training and or directly related experience, will be considered sufficient for an individual to meet the requirements of the role.

Knowledge Must obtain a working knowledge of the American Association of Tissue Banking regulations. Must obtain a working knowledge of regulatory/quality requirements and perform within all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and policies. outcomes, assist in the development of hospital donation policies, and promote a culture of donation within the hospital. Identifies and recruits donation champion(s) at assigned hospitals to help drive donation initiatives, increase access, and help resolve conflicts. Participates in donation awareness and donor registration activities within assigned hospitals. Develops and maintains relationships with funeral homes, Medical Examiners, and Justices of the Peace in assigned area to improve potential for positive donation outcomes. Develops collaborative relationships with organ procurement organization (OPO) and eye bank partners. Collaborates with community agencies to participate in events to educate the public about tissue donation and encourage donor registration. Performs other duties as assigned.

Non‐Essential Tasks Run departmental errands as directed.

Skills Must be capable of training and relating to tissue services and hospital staff. Must be able to develop relationships at all levels within the hospital. Must be capable of operating motor vehicles in all types of weather conditions. Must have excellent written and oral communication, interpersonal and presentation skills.

Must be neat in appearance and well groomed. Must be professional, detail oriented, self‐motivated, innovative, creative, assertive, organized, communicative, and have the ability to work independently.
