Job Description
Summary: Bio-Techne is a company focused on enabling cutting-edge research in Life Sciences and Clinical Diagnostics. They are seeking an intern to assist with Product Stewardship activities, including sustainability and compliance efforts related to Environment, Health and Safety (EHS). The intern will work on packaging compliance and help streamline processes related to Safety Data Sheets.
Responsibilities:
- Work with Process Engineering, Sustainability & EHS teams to identify packaging materials used in our products and work with vendors to document parameters required by PPWR
- Work with our EHS & Process Engineering Team to verify composition, CAS numbers and formulations of products manufactured in Minneapolis
- Identify anomalies or missing information for correction by the EHS team
- Verify product formulations, CAS numbers, and component data for accuracy and compliance in Safety Data Sheets (SDS)
- Review ERP systems, SOPs, batch records, and internal databases to ensure SDS completeness
- Create and maintain formulation databases to enable rapid response to SDS requests
- Collaborate with Process Engineering teams for calculations and interpretation of technical documents
- Align hazard labeling with SDS data and assist in streamlining SDS authoring workflows
- Support ad hoc activities related to the Letters of Confirmation process
- Contribute to process improvements that minimize compliance risk and enhance regulatory adherence
- Support global packaging compliance by gathering and validating packaging data through collaboration with EHS and Sustainability Teams
- Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to ensure that data is verified or entered effectively and efficiently
- Provide consistent updates on throughput and status to monitor project progress
Required Qualifications:
- Must be a currently enrolled student pursuing a Bachelor's degree in a field relevant to the internship
- Must have completed (at minimum) the sophomore year of college
- Must be able to work full-time during the duration of the internship program
- Interest in sustainability initiatives and environmental regulations is required
- Knowledge of chemical nomenclature is required
- Knowledge of calculating concentrations and converting between molarity, w/v % and w/w % is required
- Attention to detail is required
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team using work instructions
Preferred Qualifications:
- Sustainability awareness, package engineering and familiarity with biotechnology products is a plus
- Database or programming experience is a plus, but use of AI or other assistive technologies is encouraged
- Knowledge of Safety Data Sheets is a strong plus
- Knowledge and proficiency with Microsoft Excel or SmartSheets is a plus
- Background in chemistry lab or making solutions is a strong plus
- Experience with life sciences data and/or manufacturing systems is a plus
