Job Description
Summary: BillionToOne is a next-generation molecular diagnostics company focused on making powerful diagnostic tests accessible to everyone. The Automation Engineering Intern will engage in developing and troubleshooting instrumentation used in cfDNA-based NIPT assays while gaining expertise in laboratory automation and molecular techniques.
Responsibilities:
- Design, execute, and analyze experiments to improve process efficiency, increase robustness, and reduce consumable usage
- Evaluate new engineering techniques and technologies to reduce processing time and assay cost
- Perform complex manual and automated laboratory procedures (e.g., nucleic acid extraction, PCR, reagent preparation)
- Collaborate with the team to analyze data, diagnose issues, and implement solutions
- Maintain a safe and organized lab environment, strictly adhering to all safety and quality protocols
- Present project progress, data, and technical insights to the team and department
Required Qualifications:
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant scientific or engineering discipline (e.g., Bioengineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, etc)
- Proven experience contributing to and completing projects within an academic or industrial environment
- Proven experience developing and refining components for electrical or mechanical systems
- Adept at using Python or C# to perform data analysis and solve complex problems
- A driven, creative, and passionate mindset, with a strong willingness to go above and beyond to solve problems
- Exceptional communication skills, able to articulate complex data and insights clearly
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
