Associate General Counsel at Belong in Coral Gables, FL

About Belong

We didn't build a better property management company. We replaced the need for one.

Belong is the operating system for rental homeownership. One system that runs rent, maintenance, finances, residents, and visibility end to end. Not a person juggling disconnected tools. A system that gets smarter every single day, with every home we add.

We've survived Covid, the tech crash, and the toughest capital markets cycle in a generation. We are growing fast, we are AI-first, and we are building something that has never existed before.

Our 200+ Belongers are strong, curious, and unreasonably ambitious. If you want a passive role at a company that's okay with average, this is not it.

The Role

Belong needs an Associate General Counsel who combines strategic judgment with hands-on legal execution. You serve as the legal advisor to the executive leadership team and the Board of Directors, providing strategic guidance on the legal, regulatory, and risk-related matters that affect the company.

This is a high-ownership individual contributor role with no direct reports. You oversee Belong's legal functions across corporate governance, contracts, compliance, litigation, intellectual property, labor and employment, and data privacy, and you advise our regional teams in Argentina, Peru, and the United States. You draft and negotiate the agreements that power the system, manage outside counsel, and make sure Belong moves fast without taking risks it does not understand.

What You'll Own

Advise Leadership and the Board. Serve as the legal advisor to the executive leadership team and Board of Directors on legal, regulatory, and risk-related matters. Monitor changes in relevant laws and regulations and proactively advise business leaders on their potential impact and the adaptations required.

Own the Legal Function. Oversee the legal functions of the company, including corporate governance, contracts, compliance, litigation, intellectual property, labor and employment, and data privacy.

Draft and Negotiate the Agreements That Power the System. Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements, including vendor contracts, partnership agreements, and licensing deals.

Keep Belong Compliant Everywhere We Operate. Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and international laws and regulations, including SEC, antitrust, employment, privacy, and corporate law. Establish compliance standards, review practices, and advise regional teams in Argentina, Peru, and the United States.

Lead Investigations and Manage Outside Counsel. Lead internal investigations and manage outside counsel on litigation and other specialized legal matters.

Support Corporate Transactions. Support corporate transactions, including finance, investments, and strategic partnerships, from due diligence through post-closing integration.

Counsel on Employment Matters. Provide counsel on employment-related matters, including compensation, benefits, hiring, and termination

What We're Looking For

On Experience

• JD or LLM from an ABA-accredited law school or equivalent.
• Current admission to the Bar in a Belong state: New York, Florida, or California.
• 3 years of experience with real estate and corporate transactional work, including corporate general matters and regulatory law (advising companies on incorporations, governance, and compliance matters); supporting companies in M&A transactions, due diligence, and corporate reorganizations; and managing corporate filings with the Secretary of State and preparing legal documentation for board and shareholders’ meetings.
• Plus one year of experience in the following: legal operations in platform startups; data protection and intellectual property agreements; interpreting and applying jurisdiction-specific landlord-tenant laws across multiple U.S. states; engaging directly with insurance carriers and brokers to manage active claims and resolve disputes; and coordinating alternative insurance coverage options when needed, ensuring Homeowner policies meet contract requirements.
• Fluent Spanish is required.

On Mindset

You are a business partner, not a gatekeeper. You give clear answers and practical paths forward. You find the way to yes when it exists, and you explain the risk plainly when it does not.

You lead from the work. With no direct reports, you draft, negotiate, and close yourself. You stay close enough to the details to own the outcome.

You are a startup operator. You are energized by fast growth, evolving priorities, and multiple jurisdictions moving at once, and you build structure without slowing the business down.

You communicate clearly. You can explain a legal conclusion to the Board and a contract risk to an operating leader in direct, practical language.

You own it end to end. When you see a risk, you flag it early and drive it to resolution. "It’s not my job" does not exist here.

You are member obsessed. Every contract, policy, and claim you touch shapes the experience of the Homeowners and Residents who trust Belong with their homes.

Why This Role Matters

The person in this seat protects the system that lets Belong grow with confidence. When a new partnership closes on clean terms, that is this role. When a regulation changes and the business adapts before it becomes a problem, that is this role. When a claim is resolved and a Homeowner keeps trusting Belong, that is this role.

Every agreement and every decision in this role either strengthens confidence in the Belong OS or weakens it. The judgment you bring affects how fast Belong can expand into new markets, how well it withstands scrutiny, and how safely it can keep building something that has never existed before.

Why Belong

You get a front-row seat at a venture-backed company, backed by Andreessen Horowitz and some of the most respected operators in technology, redefining one of the largest and most broken industries in America. This is a high-ownership role in our Coral Gables office, working directly with leadership on the decisions that shape the company.

Belong is AI-first in a way that actually means something: automation removes repetitive work so people can focus on the judgment calls that truly need them. The culture is built on clarity, ownership, speed, and the relentless pursuit of excellence. Entrepreneurial, direct, intentional, and intense.

We do not manage properties. We run an operating system. And the people who represent that system to the world are not just employees. They are Belongers.
