Job Description
Summary: BD is one of the largest global medical technology companies in the world, dedicated to advancing health. The R&D Engineer II role focuses on developing innovative mechanical designs and solutions, conducting experimental tests, and ensuring product quality and performance through engineering analysis.
Responsibilities:
- Develop innovative mechanical designs and solutions based on engineering analysis to meet performance requirements, while applying sound engineering principles through experimental, computational, and analytical methods
- Design and perform experimental tests, develop robust test methods, plan and execute design of experiments (DOE), and conduct measurement system analysis to ensure product quality and performance
- Perform statistical data analysis including regression analyses and develop transfer functions, while authoring comprehensive protocols, reports, and documentation for engineering studies and design verification activities
- Contribute as an extended team member on significant projects or lead smaller scope projects, demonstrating accountability for successful and timely completion of designated tasks with increasing responsibility
- Support material/design/process changes through design control processes with well-documented research and analyses, while ensuring compliance with quality policies, procedures, and practices through appropriate communication and training
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelors/Masters in Mechanical Engineering or related Engineering discipline
- B.S.: 1-5 years of experience in technical area
- M.S.: 0 years of experience in technical area
Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrates sound knowledge of engineering fundamentals with proficiency in solid modeling software (Creo, SolidWorks or equivalent). Possesses familiarity with fixture design including basic machining considerations and test method development
- Experienced with R&D functional planning, requirement generation, and technical reviews (DFSS/Design/Cross-functional) across all product development phases. Understands Six Sigma (DMAIC) practices and Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) methodologies
- Demonstrates strong project management capabilities with the ability to prioritize tasks and multi-task effectively to meet tight deadlines. Shows exposure to Measurement Systems Analysis (MSA) for quality control processes
- Exhibits exceptional creative, analytical, and problem-solving skills with a methodical approach to engineering challenges. Applies critical thinking to develop innovative solutions within project constraints
- Possesses the ability to effectively and clearly communicate concepts, ideas, and technical knowledge to individuals and teams across various departments. Demonstrates strong written and verbal communication skills essential for collaborative engineering environments
