Finance & Accounting Internship at BankNewport in Middletown, RI

Summary: BankNewport is a financial institution seeking a Finance & Accounting Intern to support their Finance and Accounting teams. This internship offers hands-on experience in core accounting and finance functions, including general ledger reconciliations and accounts payable, while providing an opportunity to participate in various projects and gain a practical understanding of bank operations. Responsibilities: - Perform daily general ledger account reconciliations to gain understanding of Bank systems and third-party relationships - Participate in scheduled job rotations with other areas of the Accounting team - Assist the Assistant Controller and Accounting team members with special projects as needed - Support aspects of the accounts payable process, including invoice entry, scanning documentation, and updating vendor information - Participate in the periodic forecasting process, including partnering with departments to gather and validate modeling assumptions - Assist with data management and reporting associated with the Bank’s ERM system (Axiom) - Support accurate recordkeeping in accordance with internal controls, policies, and procedures - Perform additional administrative and finance-related tasks as assigned Required Qualifications: - Strong attention to detail and analytical skills - Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications - Strong organizational and time management skills - Ability to handle confidential financial information with professionalism - Strong written and verbal communication skills - Willingness to learn and work collaboratively in a team environment - High School Diploma/GED Equivalent - Currently pursuing a degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, Economics, or a related field Preferred Qualifications: - Basic understanding of accounting principles and financial statements Required Skills: Accounting principles, Financial statements, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Office, Analytical skills
