Job Description
Financial Management (FM) Deliver the financial targets and objectives for the practice area. Billings & Collections Management Ensure the average time to bill does not create unnecessary WIP Collect fees when due and contribute to the management of working capital Optimise the productivity and achieve an effective balance between billable hours and non-billable hours Business Development (BD) and Marketing · Support the practice groups’ marketing and business development initiatives. · Prepare legal opinions and research memoranda on mining issues. · Support business development initiatives, including preparing pitches and participating in industry events in the mining and energy sector focused legal or industry associations (e.g., NBA-SBL Energy Committee, Miners Association of Nigeria, African Mining Indaba). Client Relationship Management (CRM) Assist the senior associates in business development and client relationship management. Provide strategic legal advice and risk assessment. Develop and maintain strong client relationships to support business development. Case Management Advise local and international clients on legal and regulatory requirements under the Nigerian Minerals and Mining Act, 2007 and other applicable laws. Assist clients in obtaining exploration and mining licenses, permits, and environmental approvals. Draft and review agreements related to joint ventures, concessions, EPC contracts, offtake agreements, and land use. Conduct legal due diligence on mining assets and operations. Liaise with relevant government agencies such as the Ministry of Solid Minerals, Mining Cadastre Office, and NESREA. Provide legal support on environmental, health, and safety (EHS) compliance issues. Advise on taxation, community relations, and local content obligations in the mining sector. Support dispute resolution teams in handling mining-related litigation or arbitration. Conduct thorough legal research and case analysis. Brief and coordinate with senior counsel, experts, and witnesses. Requirements · The minimum education requirements are as follows: · LLB from a recognized university or accredited law school (2:1, Second class upper and above) · Licensing: Called to the bar obtaining a grade of Second Class Upper and above Additional (Optional) Qualifications: · Continuing Legal Education (CLE): Ongoing participation in CLE programs to stay current with legal developments and maintain bar membership. · Professional Development: Engagement in professional development activities, such as attending conferences, workshops, and networking events. · Certifications in specific areas of law or business management can also be beneficial. The Associate must have minimum of 2 years of post-call experience, with basic experience in energy, mining, infrastructure, or natural resources law.
