Job Description
Summary: AXIS Capital is a trusted global provider of specialty lines insurance and reinsurance, dedicated to outstanding client service and intelligent risk taking. The People Analytics & AI Intern will work with the People Analytics and Transformation team to design and develop backend AI and data engineering systems that enhance the HR function, focusing on applied machine learning and API development.
Responsibilities:
- Design and develop backend Python services and data pipelines that process and enrich HR and talent data
- Integrate large language model (LLM) APIs to build AI-powered features including semantic search, text classification, and intelligent matching
- Build and expose REST API endpoints to make analytical outputs consumable by downstream tools and dashboards
- Work with anonymized and synthetic datasets that mirror real HR data structures to prototype and test solutions
- Gather and validate requirements from stakeholders across HR and Talent Acquisition, translating business needs into technical specifications
- Collaborate with coaches across People Analytics, HR Operations, Talent Acquisition, and Technology to support learning and network development
- Present your work to HR leadership at the end of the internship, demonstrating both technical outcomes and business impact
Required Qualifications:
- Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field
- Proficiency in Python (pandas, NumPy) and comfort working with structured data
- Experience with REST APIs and LLM integrations (e.g., OpenAI, Gemini, Claude, or similar)
- Familiarity with version control (Git/GitHub) and software engineering best practices
- Strong communication skills — the ability to explain technical work clearly to a non-technical audience is as important as the ability to build it
- Curiosity, initiative, and a builder's mindset
