Job Description
Summary: AXIS Capital is a trusted global provider of specialty lines insurance and reinsurance. The Actuarial Intern will assist in performing Actuarial functions, including data manipulation, profitability analysis, and developing rating plans.
Responsibilities:
- Successfully complete projects which assist AXIS in performing Actuarial functions
- Duties will include, but are not limited to, data manipulation, rater support, rate filings, and reporting
- Work closely with line actuaries and assist with profitability analysis of underwriting and claim trends as well as analysis of new and expanded business opportunities
- Provide assistance in developing and maintaining the rating plans used by various business units
- Assist with the monthly price monitoring process
- Assist with supplementary analysis and special projects
- Gain general insurance or reinsurance knowledge
Required Qualifications:
- Excellent PC skills and knowledge of Microsoft product suite, particularly Excel (experience with Visual Basic is a plus)
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, as well as strong written and verbal communication
- Strong interpersonal skills, as well as an ability to work on a team. Individual will have frequent interaction with people on a variety of levels in all major departments of the company (Actuarial, Underwriting, Claims, Finance etc.)
- Progress towards an Undergraduate or Graduate degree in Math, Accounting, Economics, Statistics, Business, Risk Management or a similar field which demonstrates an affinity and talent for quantitative analysis
- Current student in good standing with a GPA of 3.0 or higher with at least one year remaining towards completion of his or her degree
- Candidate should be local in the New York/ New Jersey area for the NY office positions
- This is a one-year internship starting in June 2026 to May 2027. To be considered, candidates must be able to work in our midtown Manhattan office part-time (minimum 16 hours) during spring and fall terms and full time (40 hours) during summer from 9am - 5pm, Monday to Friday
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of Access, SQL, and/or experience with databases is a plus
- Successful completion of Actuarial exams is a plus
