Intern, Project Engineer at Avid Bioservices in Tustin, CA

Summary: Avid Bioservices is a biopharmaceutical company seeking an Intern, Project Engineer to support Engineering and CAPEX projects within a GMP environment. The intern will gain hands-on experience across the full project lifecycle while collaborating with cross-functional teams on project design, execution, and closeout. Responsibilities: - Support engineering activities in a GMP biomanufacturing facility, assisting with daily project work, execution, and coordinating - Collaborate with engineering teams, cross-functional team, and external contractors on project design for PD and GMP manufacturing - Assist in execution of CAPEX projects across the design, construction, build, installation, commissioning, qualification, and project closeout phases - Support project manager in tracking project activities, timelines, progress and against the plan, identifying risks or issues and following up with the action items. Support in maintaining project documents, such as dashboards, tracker, reports - Participate in field execution, construction, installation, commissioning activities, coordinating with vendors, contractors, and Avid project team - Participate in design review, P&ID drawing review, redline markup, field survey, equipment/utility specification and calculations, commissioning/start up report review, turn over package review, etc., and gain hand-on experience and knowledge in project execution. Help manage vendor documents, including drawings, design package, turn-over package, FAT/SAT, etc - Assist with change control processes, including documentation, impact assessment, and implementation tracking - Gain exposure to automation system and support related activities. Gain knowledge of Biotech manufacturing equipment, clean utility, facility systems Required Qualifications: - Ability to work independently and as part of a team - Effective communication and interpersonal skills - Availability to work full-time for the duration of the internship at our Tustin, CA facility - Authorization to work in the country where the internship is located Preferred Qualifications: - Currently pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in mechanical engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Construction Management, or Engineering related majors - Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively - Technical writing and communication skills to convey project updates - Basic proficiency in computer applications such as MS Office and, for some roles, data analysis or programming tools - Familiarity with pharmaceutical facility, utilities (HVAC, WFI, UPS, etc.), process equipment (bioreactors, etc.), P&ID drawings, and regulatory compliance (FDA, cGMP, ISO standard) is preferred Required Skills: GMP biopharmaceutical experience, Project management support Important Skills: Mechanical Engineering, P&ID drawing familiarity Nice-to-Have Skills: Analytical skills Benefits: Mentorship: Your manager and team will provide training, mentorship, and development opportunities., Weekly Check-ins and 1:1s: Conduct both on a weekly basis to ensure clear communication and support for our interns., Performance Assessments: Conduct mid and end of program performance assessments to be provided with constructive criticism and feedback to help you grow and succeed., State of the Art Facility: You’ll be working amongst the brightest minds in our world class facilities, Internship Experiences: Intern Open House, Summer Leadership Series, Lunch & Learns, Site Tours, End of Summer Presentation
