Member of Technical Staff - MTS
Location: Chennai India

Position Summary:
Build and support the platform services that help power API traffic across athenahealth systems. In this role, you will design, develop, deploy, and troubleshoot software components that support routing, authentication, authorization, scalability, and reliability for internal and external APIs. You will work fromBangalore location and collaborate with engineers and other partners to deliver high-quality platform capabilities.
About the Team:
The Managed API Gateway team provides a unified entry point for API requests and supports traffic routing, load balancing, and access control for microservices. The team helps ensure APIs are secure, reliable, and scalable for both internal and external use cases. Team members partner with application engineers, infrastructure teams, and identity and access management stakeholders to support platform operations and service delivery. The team uses cloud infrastructure, API gateway technologies, Kubernetes, Terraform, monitoring tools, and AWS services to run and maintain the platform.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
Produce clear technical design specifications with the right level of detail for implementation and review.
Develop, test, deploy, and maintain software components and services that support the platform.
Deliver high-quality solutions that meet requirements for security, performance, reliability, and integration testing.
Estimate effort for designs, stories, and technical work to support planning and prioritization.
Participate actively in sprint planning, technical discussions, and implementation reviews.
Follow coding standards, architecture guidelines, and engineering best practices.
Troubleshoot and resolve production issues by analyzing code, logs, and system behavior.
Scale systems to support business demand and availability targets, including high availability and disaster recovery needs.
Perform peer code reviews and contribute to code quality, testing, documentation, and defect prevention.
Use AI tools to help review code, summarize logs, and explore troubleshooting options while checking results carefully before applying changes.
Additional Job Responsibilities:
Contribute to the identification and prioritization of technical debt.
Support continuous improvement in deployment, monitoring, and operational processes.
Assist with system tuning and reliability improvements.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams on platform requirements and implementation details.
Help maintain documentation for services, processes, and runbooks.
Share knowledge and practical guidance with teammates.
Expected Education & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
2 to 4 years of experience in an engineering role.
Experience working in an Agile environment is preferred.
Proficiency in one or more modern programming languages such as Python, Node.js, Java, or JavaScript.
Working knowledge of Linux, SQL, and Redis.
Experience with RESTful APIs, Infrastructure as Code, Terraform, and monitoring stacks.
Experience with Jenkins and AWS services such as ECS, EC2, ELB, IAM, RDS, Route 53, Cloud Map, Lambda, CloudWatch, VPC, and S3.
Experience with API gateways and Kubernetes.
Exposure to identity and access management tools such as Okta, Ping, or similar products is preferred.
