Job Description
Summary: Arlington County Government is seeking a Data and Engagement Intern for the Arlington Children and Youth Well-being Plan. The role focuses on data collection, analysis, and community engagement to support the well-being of youth in the community.
Responsibilities:
- Collecting, cleaning, and analyzing qualitative and quantitative data related to children and youth well-being to support data-informed decision-making
- Ensuring data sources are appropriate, current, verifiable, and well-documented for ongoing and future use
- Developing and maintaining structured databases, spreadsheets, and data systems to ensure accuracy, consistency, and accessibility of information
- Creating clear and compelling data visualizations, dashboards, and reports to support decision-making and communication
- Utilizing available data analytic tools and supporting the development of new data collection and analysis processes
- Coordinating with internal quality assurance staff to ensure proper data storage, access, and sharing across departments
- Scheduling and coordinating community engagement sessions with stakeholders and community members
- Preparing agendas, materials, and logistics for engagement activities
- Facilitating engagement sessions to support inclusive, productive discussions; and
- Summarizing findings and preparing reports and presentations for internal and external audiences
Required Qualifications:
- Recent, 2025 and/or 2026 college graduates earning either a Bachelor's or a Master's degree in the area of consideration prior to the start date of the Cohort Program (Sept. 2026) must have:
- No professional-level work experience (less than one year) in the internship field
- You may be a currently enrolled student in a Master's degree program related to the internship, but you must not have significant professional-level work experience in the internship area and must be available to work during designated hours
- Degree Requirements: Public or Business Administration, Public Health, Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, Health Informatics, Data Science, or a related field
- The successful candidate will have experience in using Excel to design advanced data collection and analysis tools, and the ability to rapidly learn new reporting and analysis software
- They will have demonstrated strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills that include an acute attention to detail
- Collaborative teamwork and communication are essential to the position, as is the ability to communicate complex data both verbally and in a variety of written and visual formats to a wide range of audiences
- Background Check: A pre-employment criminal records check will be conducted. It will include checks of the following: criminal record, driving record, education, professional licensure, and credit history
- Driver's License: Applicant must possess, or obtain by time of appointment, a valid driver's license, and must provide or authorize Arlington County to obtain a copy of official driving record
Preferred Qualifications:
- Preference may be given to candidates with a Master's Degree and/or one or more of the following:
- G.P.A. of 3.0 or above is preferred and applicants may be asked to provide certified official transcripts
- Experience and proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite including Excel and PowerPoint
- Experience researching, understanding, and interpreting technical and policy-related documentation
- Experience interacting with multiple levels of staff and to express ideas clearly, verbally and in writing, to a variety of audiences
- Experience working in a public health agency or another human services environment
- Bilingual, fluent and literate, in English and Spanish
