Water/Wastewater CAD Designer
Ardurra is looking to hire an experienced Water/Wastewater CAD Designer for our water utilities practice based in the Knoxville, TN area.
Primary Function:
Ardurra’s innovative water/wastewater design engineers collaborate closely with clients to, design, and construct systems that address their needs comprehensively. This approach allows our clients to make smarter investments, resulting in lower life cycle costs and additional benefits.
As a recognized leader in the South water industry, Ardurra's projects encompass treatment and infrastructure initiatives for water utilities. Our work ranges from drinking water supply to water reuse and wastewater management. We have the capability to support projects of all sizes within a flexible and innovative team environment.
This position will be expected to design and possibly manage multidiscipline projects consisting of water/wastewater treatment and collection/distribution systems for our clients. The individual should be capable of performing the technical design and/or hydraulic modeling requirements on water/wastewater projects and additional consideration will be given to those that have experience managing a team of engineers, EIT’s, CADD technicians, and sub consultants, to successfully execute these types of projects.
Primary Duties:
- Establishes design criteria for all phases of a project requiring the application of basic engineering principles, material properties, and a familiarity with construction, installation, and maintenance procedures. Also responsible for establishing manpower requirements, man-hour estimates, and completion schedules.
- Provides conceptual input to projects during the planning stages.
- Regularly assigns tasks to lower-level design personnel, provides technical guidance, and reviews completed assignments for accuracy. Participates in performance appraisal process by conducting periodic coaching and progress review sessions with employees assigned to projects.
- Prepares detail and layout drawings and sketches of unusual, complex, or original designs requiring the application of theoretical and practical engineering knowledge. Assignments regularly include determining material needs and performing necessary calculations using accepted formulas and references.
- Supports field assignments and leads field walkdowns as required.
- Reviews manufacturers’ or fabricators’ prints for conformance with contract specifications.
- Provides lower-level design/drafting personnel with design sketches for preparation of finished design drawings, general layouts, and guidance in refining technical requirements.
- Regularly interfaces with other departments, clients, vendors, and project engineers in order to support project production and to resolve conflicting priorities.
- Performs other related tasks in support of project engineer that are non-routine and complex in nature, such as writing procedures and specifications; analyzing bids; compiling, computing, and analyzing various engineering design and/or test data; estimating; etc.
- Participates in the interviewing, selection, and training of new employees.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- 10-15 years of design experience on Water/Wastewater Utilities
- Incumbent must demonstrate a sound understanding of design concepts with minimal engineering input and a proficiency in using CADD/drafting software for difficult design assignments.
- Must be able to resolve day-to-day project-related employee problems.
