Job Description
Summary: Applied Materials is a global leader in materials engineering solutions. The Summer UX Research Intern will support research on user interactions with analytics tools, analyze usability test data, and collaborate with product teams to enhance user experience for manufacturing roles.
Responsibilities:
- Support research on how engineers, planners, and manufacturing operators interact with analytics tools—conducting interviews, shadowing on the shop floor, and observing workflows to uncover friction points in decision‑making
- Analyze data from usability tests of dashboards, digital twins, and AI‑driven insights to identify opportunities to simplify complex manufacturing information for non‑technical users
- Create user personas and journey maps for manufacturing roles (e.g., planners, schedulers, process engineers, quality engineers, shift supervisors) to guide product and feature design
- Work with product managers, data scientists, and UI/UX designers to validate new analytics features, ensuring they align with real-world use cases such as yield improvement, tool health monitoring, and supply chain exceptions
Required Qualifications:
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field
- Strong analytical skills to analyze data from usability tests
- Ability to conduct interviews and shadowing on the shop floor
- Experience in creating user personas and journey maps
- Familiarity with product management, data science, and UI/UX design processes
- Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams
