Location: Peterborough
Salary: Circa £35,000 depending on experience
Location: Flexible across the Anglian Water Region, with regular travel to various offices
Working Pattern: Hybrid working – 2–3 days per week in the office
Contract Type: Full-time, Permanent (With opportunities for part-time)
About the Role
Anglian Water is seeking a highly analytical and commercially focused Cost Analyst to join our Supply Maintenance Delivery Team. This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of a small team of commercial professionals and play a pivotal role in managing the financial performance of our Supply Maintenance Delivery programme.

As we embrace a new way of working, our newly formed Supply Maintenance Delivery Team is building a fresh inspection and delivery framework, embedding innovative processes, and forging strong partnerships with our partners. It’s an exciting time to be part of one of Water Supply’s largest capital programmes, where safety, efficiency, and collaboration are at the heart of everything we do.
What You’ll Be Doing
Analysing contractors’ actual cost submissions to ensure compliance with contractual terms and agreed accounting rules
Completing detailed desktop audits to identify anomalies, inefficiencies, or potential disallowed costs
Supporting quarterly and annual actual cost audits, working closely with Contract Managers and auditors
Analysing and reviewing accuracy of cost capture data through Asset Plus
Benchmarking costs against internal partners and external market data to ensure best value
Identifying and escalating adverse financial impacts to enable timely commercial action
Developing and producing consistent unit cost and expenditure reports across water contracts
Trending Target Unit Prices, productivity outputs, and contractor performance against tender baselines
Analysing material usage against agreed material footprints
Supporting cost reconciliation and financial project planning within SAP
Providing analytical and SAP support to Contract Managers, Cost Auditors, and Senior Cost Auditors
Producing tailored reports to meet the needs of a wide range of stakeholders
Supporting carbon footprint reporting and wider commercial data requirements
Assisting with timesheets, issue and action logs, and month‑end activities
What We’re Looking For
Educated to A‑Level standard (or equivalent), ideally including Mathematics or Accounting
Strong analytical and data‑handling skills, including complex financial analysis
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, with the ability to manipulate and interpret large datasets
Excellent communication skills, able to present findings clearly to technical and non‑technical audiences
Ability to work effectively with colleagues and contractors at all levels
Degree‑level qualification, AAT, or equivalent relevant experience
Experience in cost analysis, cost auditing, or corporate financial management
Knowledge of target cost, unit cost, or incentive‑based commercial models
Working knowledge of SAP financial and job management modules
Experience within utilities, infrastructure, or other regulated environments
Strong attention to detail with a commitment to data accuracy
Confident challenging data and asking the right questions
