Position Summary:
AUIB is seeking a dynamic and experienced Dental Nurse to drive its mission of delivering exceptional, safe, and patient-centered dental care within a modern clinical environment. In this pivotal role, the Dental Nurse will support clinicians during all dental procedures, maintain rigorous infection control and sterilization protocols, manage dental instruments and dental materials, and ensure a smooth, empathetic patient journey from arrival to discharge. Key Responsibilities:
Chairside Assistance: Support dentists during all procedures by passing instruments, managing suction, mixing materials, and anticipating clinical needs to improve efficiency and patient comfort
Infection Control & Sterilization: Operate autoclaves and ultrasonic cleaners, disinfect operatories between patients, and maintain sterilization logs in full compliance with safety protocols.
Patient Preparation & Aftercare: Greet patients, review medical histories, explain procedures simply, and provide post-operative instructions and follow-up scheduling.
Radiology Support: Capture digital X-rays (periapical, panoramic, etc.) following radiation safety guidelines to support accurate diagnosis.
Emergency Assistance: Recognize signs of medical emergencies (syncope, hypoglycemia, allergic reactions, cardiac events) and assist the dentist by retrieving emergency equipment, monitoring vital signs, and calling for additional help as needed.
Inventory Management: Monitor stock levels of dental consumables, check expiry dates, rotate supplies, and prepare the weekly indent.
Ideal Candidate Profile:
Clinical Competence: Possesses solid knowledge of dental instruments, materials, and common procedures (fillings, extractions, root canals, crowns). Can set up trays quickly and assist without constant direction.
Attention to Detail: Follows sterilization protocols meticulously, checks expiry dates, verifies patient medical histories, and ensures no step is missed in infection control or documentation.
Composure Under Pressure: Stays calm and focused during emergencies, busy schedules, or difficult procedures. Respond quickly to clinician requests and patient needs without panic.
Empathy & Patient Communication: Puts anxious patients at ease with gentle, clear explanations. Listens to concerns and communicates in a warm, reassuring manner appropriate for all ages.
Team Collaboration: Works seamlessly with dentists, hygienists, reception staff, and the biomedical engineer. Shares room turnaround duties proactively and communicate clearly during handovers.
Education and Experience:
• Required Education: Bachelor of Nursing from an accredited institution.
• Years of Relevant Experience: Minimum 1–2 years of clinical experience in a dental practice setting (general or specialist)
• Specific Skills or Expertise:
– Proficient in four-handed dentistry
– Knowledge of instrument sterilization & infection control protocols
– Ability to take digital X-rays (periapical, panoramic, bitewing)
– Familiar with dental practice management software.
– Competent in vital signs monitoring and emergency response
• Additional Certifications:
– BLS/CPR (required)
– Radiation Safety / Radiology Certification (preferred)
– Infection Control Certificate (preferred)
– Nursing license / registration (as required by local health authority)
