Overview
The IT Program Management Portfolio Lead is responsible for overseeing a portfolio of strategic, cross-functional IT projects and initiatives that drive business outcomes and aligns with priorities within a given business area (e.g. Demand, Field Enablement, Field Support, Customer Engagement.) This role partners closely with business leaders and delivery teams to ensure effective execution and value realization across the full lifecycle of multiple initiatives.
The ideal candidate combines strong project management discipline with strategic thinking, financial oversight, and the ability to influence across complex, matrixed environments.
Responsibilities
Project Oversight & Execution
- Drive a culture of accountability for delivery across IT and business stakeholders
- Standardize program management practices while enabling flexibility where appropriate
- Identify and manage cross-program dependencies, risks, and trade-offs
- Partner with leadership to continuously refine priorities based on business value
Financial & Resource Management
- Manage project budgets, forecasts, and financial performance tracking
- Ensure disciplined business case development and benefits realization tracking
Stakeholder Engagement
- Act as a senior liaison between IT and business units to ensure alignment and shared ownership
- Provide clear, data-driven visibility into portfolio health, risks, and outcomes
- Build strong relationships and develop deep business knowledge across IT, business units, and external partners
Value Realization & Continuous Improvement
- Ensure programs deliver measurable business value and outcomes
- Implement project performance reviews and post-implementation assessments
- Drive continuous improvement in project delivery practices and PMO maturity
Qualifications
Required
- 10+ years of experience in program or portfolio management
- Proven track record managing large, complex project portfolios in a matrixed organization
- Strong understanding of program governance, risk management, and financial oversight
- Experience working with business stakeholders and leading cross-functional teams
- Excellent communication, leadership, and influencing skills
Preferred
Experience in professional services, consulting, or technology-driven environments
Familiarity with Agile, hybrid delivery models, and digital transformation initiatives
Certifications such as PMP, PgMP, or equivalent
Intervene where necessary to unblock delivery and course-correct underperforming initiatives
