Intern - Structural Dynamics at Amentum in US-AL-Huntsville

Summary: Amentum is a company focused on space exploration, and they are seeking an intern for their Space Exploration Division. The intern will work alongside engineers and scientists on hardware development and various projects related to structural dynamics for spacecraft. Responsibilities: - Performing structural dynamic analyses for spacecraft flight hardware - Producing and maintaining models generated from both in-house and commercially available software codes, that simulate mechanical loading conditions, dynamic environments (shock and vibration), and mechanism motions - Performing loads development (primary structure and component level), shock and vibration environments determination and component and system level testing and data evaluation - Preparing test plans/requirements for: static, separation dynamics, vibration, modal and shock tests. Analyze and document the results in post-test reports - Generating detailed analysis reports and presenting/communicating those results with the customer - Perform safety and certification training to support ESSCA and customer requirements Required Qualifications: - Current enrollment in a BS degree program for Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering or related degree program is required - Degree program at an ABET accredited institution preferred - Candidate must have completed the 2nd year of a college program (Sophomore year) or equivalent - Must be able to provide own transportation - Excellent written and verbal communication skills - Basic knowledge of PATRAN or FEMAP, NASTRAN, and/or MATLAB - Interest in dynamics of structural systems using classical analysis and finite element based methods - Familiarity with NASA and/or commercial spaceflight programs - Experience with Matlab, Python or other programming language to support creation of in-house tools and scripts - Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required - Must be able to effectively communicate technical information via written reports and PowerPoint presentations - A proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite competence (Word, Office, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and Outlook) is required - Have completed sophomore year of university studies and be in good academic standing - Maintain an overall average of 3.0 - Proof of U.S. Citizenship is required Required Skills: Structural Dynamics, Finite Element Analysis, PATRAN, FEMAP, NASTRAN, MATLAB, Python, Programming Languages, Microsoft Office Suite, PowerPoint Presentations, Spacecraft Flight Hardware Analysis Benefits: Health, dental, and vision insurance, Paid time off and holidays, Retirement benefits (including 401(k) matching), Educational reimbursement, Parental leave, Employee stock purchase plan, Tax-saving options, Disability and life insurance, Pet insurance
