Job Description
Summary: Amazon is a leading technology company known for its customer obsession and innovation. They are seeking PhD students for Robotics Applied Scientist II Intern/Co-op roles to work on cutting-edge robotics research and applications that will impact millions of customers worldwide.
Responsibilities:
- Solve real customer problems through innovative technology
- Work on scalable research and projects in a collaborative team environment
- Shape the future of robotics and automation
- Specialization in one or more of the research areas in robotics such as: robotics manipulation, autonomous mobile robots, mobile manipulation, motion/path planning, controls, perception, sensing, robot learning, artificial intelligence, machine learning, computer vision, large language models, human-robot interaction, robotics simulation, optimization, and more
- Grow into a high-impact engineer with support from a culture of learning and mentorship
- Work full-time (40 hours per week) in person based out of the assigned office location for the whole duration of the internship/co-op
- Provide preference of research interests, start dates, internship duration, and location in the application
Required Qualifications:
- Are 18 years of age or older
- Currently enrolled in a PhD program in Computer Science, Robotics, Engineering, Machine Learning, Operations Research, Mathematics, or a related quantitative field
- Must be eligible for and available for full-time (40 hours per week) internship in person based out of the assigned office location for the whole duration of the internship/co-op
- At least 1 year of relevant academic research or industry experience within Robotics, Computer Vision, Machine Learning, Optimization, Manipulation, Perception, Motion Planning and Controls, Movement, Autonomous Navigation, Path Planning, or related
- Experience programming in Java, C++, Python, or related
Preferred Qualifications:
- Publication(s) at top-tier peer-reviewed conferences or journals
- Ability to develop system prototypes
- Demonstrated ability to work on collaborative and cross-functional teams
- Drive to see a project through from research concept to working prototype
- Strong algorithm development experience
- A working knowledge of analysis of algorithms and computational complexity
- Familiarity with state-of-the-art algorithms in field of expertise
- Excellent creative problem-solving skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex technical information in a clear and concise manner to a variety of audiences
