Digital Engineering Intern at ALO in San Ramon, CA

Summary: ALO is a company focused on mindful movement and improving lives through yoga. They are seeking a highly motivated Graduate or PhD-level Intern to work on building and scaling server-side systems and cloud-native services as part of their Digital Engineering team. Responsibilities: - Design, develop, and test server-side components and APIs - Assist in building and scaling distributed cloud-based systems - Collaborate with senior engineers on architecture and implementation decisions - Apply AI-assisted coding tools to improve productivity and code quality - Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code - Participate in code reviews and technical discussions Required Qualifications: - Master's degree in computer science, Software Engineering, or a related field OR PhD candidate in Computer Science or a closely related discipline - Strong understanding of Internet fundamentals, including: HTTP/HTTPS, RESTful APIs, Web protocols and networking basics - Solid experience with server-side programming - Proficiency in at least one modern programming language, such as: Java (preferred), Python, Go, C++ - Strong conceptual understanding of: Distributed systems, Concurrency and scalability, Fault tolerance and system reliability - Working knowledge of cloud architecture, with emphasis on AWS, including services such as: EC2, S3, RDS/DynamoDB, Lambda, API Gateway, IAM, VPC (conceptual understanding acceptable) - Exposure to AI/ML-assisted development, including: Using AI tools for code generation, refactoring, or testing, Understanding strengths and limitations of AI-generated code Preferred Qualifications: - Hands-on experience building or deploying cloud-native applications - Familiarity with: Microservices architecture, Containerization (Docker, Kubernetes – a plus) - Experience working with: Version control systems (Git), CI/CD pipelines - Coursework or research in: Distributed computing, Cloud systems, Machine learning or applied AI - Strong problem-solving skills and ability to reason about system design trade-offs Required Skills: Internet fundamentals, HTTP/HTTPS, RESTful APIs, Web protocols, Networking basics, Server-side programming, Java, Python, Go, C++, Distributed systems, Concurrency, Scalability, Fault tolerance, System reliability, Cloud architecture, AWS, EC2, S3, RDS, DynamoDB, Lambda, API Gateway, IAM, VPC, AI-assisted development, AI tools for code generation, AI tools for refactoring, AI tools for testing
