Job Description
Summary: Allison Transmission is a leading manufacturer in the automotive industry, and they are seeking a Controls Engineering Intern to support the design, development, testing, and implementation of automation and control systems. The role involves assisting engineers with programming, development, design, troubleshooting, and process improvement projects in manufacturing operations.
Responsibilities:
- Recommend and implement improvements to production processes, methods and controls
- Support testing, debugging, and troubleshooting of automation systems and production equipment
- Participate in improvement projects regarding Automated Systems by identifying and resolving problems through the use of PLCs, HMI’s, etc
- Monitors and continually improve safety, quality, process and productivity within assigned areas
- Additional Manufacturing Engineering responsibilities as necessary to support operations
Required Qualifications:
- Pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical, Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering preferred
- Prior internship, co‑op, or hands‑on project experience (academic or extracurricular) is a plus
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel or equivalent productivity tools
- Knowledge of control systems including PLCs, robots, visions systems, sensors, and electrical schematic design
- Lean manufacturing concepts and methods to continuously improve the manufacturing process
- Experience in hydraulics, pneumatics, servo and mechanical equipment
- Proficient in reading blueprints
- Ability to understand and apply Geometric Tolerances
- Strong organizational skills
- Attention to detail is a must
- A take-charge team player with the ability to foster enthusiasm within the organization
- Knowledge of basic manufacturing techniques is helpful
- Experience and/or knowledge working in or around machine shops or machining
Preferred Qualifications:
- Proficiency in Software, CAD or equivalent preferred
