Job Description
Summary: Advocate Health is the third-largest nonprofit, integrated health system in the United States, created from the combination of Advocate Aurora Health and Atrium Health. They are seeking a Patient Service Representative to fill critical short-term vacancies, register and interview patients, and handle routine inquiries while ensuring the accuracy of patient information.
Responsibilities:
- Registers or Pre-registers all scheduled patients for admission, partial hospitalization, and outpatient services
- Verifies insurance coverage and obtains authorization for all services that requires authorization, pre-certification, and/or referral
- Coordinates with patients and scheduling departments to reschedule procedures until authorization or patient payment can be arranged
- Requests upfront payment of deposits from responsible party
- Updates schedule for cancellations, rescheduling, and other changes on an ongoing basis
Required Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Accurate spelling and attention to detail required
- Must be able to key 40 wpm
- Excellent communication skills required
- Customer service skills required

- This position frequently requires walking from different areas
- Must be able to push a wheelchair with patient in it and maneuver through doors, up/down ramps and elevators
- Must be able to respond quickly to medical STATS and emergencies
- This position requires sitting frequently
- Must be able to lift 20-50 pounds occasionally
- Works in a fast-paced environment with numerous interruptions
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree preferred
- Knowledge of patient registration, insurance, and hospital billing preferred
- Medical terminology knowledge and understanding of third party reimbursement preferred
