Job Description
Summary: The ACLU is seeking an Undergraduate Software Engineering intern in the Technology and Analytics Department's Educate Pod. This role involves contributing to the development and maintenance of front-facing websites that facilitate public education and advocacy, providing hands-on experience in high-impact web projects.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain full-stack WordPress web properties alongside experienced engineers
- Collaborate with other engineers, designers, and product managers on cross-functional projects
- Participate in code reviews and contribute to a culture of technical quality
- Assist in creating and improving engineering documentation
- Join in on conversations about engineering strategy and best practices
Required Qualifications:
- Currently matriculated undergraduate students or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience
- Must be based in the U.S. for the entire duration of the internship
- Experience writing code in at least one high-level programming language (e.g. PHP, Python)
- Experience with front-end development tools and best practices
- Experience working with a content management system (e.g. WordPress, Drupal)
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Curiosity about how best to solve problems with creativity (and code)
- Commitment to advancing the mission of the ACLU
