Job Description
Summary: Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) is seeking a Transportation Planning Technician Intern to join the Southwest Region Environmental Team. This internship provides a unique opportunity for college students or recent graduates to gain practical, hands-on exposure to the environmental field within transportation infrastructure.
Responsibilities:
- Assisting with environmental documentation
- Data collection
- Field studies
- Compliance tasks required by federal, state, and agency laws and regulations
- Gaining experience with environmental assessments
- Permit preparation
- GIS-based project summaries
- On-site construction monitoring
- Collaborating with design, construction, and environmental staff to help ensure transportation projects meet environmental requirements
- Developing skills in applying multimodal transportation procedures, concepts, and techniques in real-world projects
Required Qualifications:
- College student or recent graduate in environmental science, planning, or a related field
- Ability to assist with environmental documentation, data collection, field studies, and compliance tasks
- Experience or coursework related to environmental assessments and permit preparation
- Familiarity with GIS-based project summaries
- Ability to collaborate with design, construction, and environmental staff
