In This Role
The China Compliance Manager is responsible for leading and executing product compliance and product safety activities for the China market. This role ensures that all products, packaging, and labeling developed, sourced, and sold in China comply with applicable Chinese regulatory, statutory, and industry requirements.
Working closely with the Global Compliance Team and cross‑functional stakeholders, the role supports the implementation of global compliance frameworks while developing and maintaining China‑specific processes, guidance, and training. The position serves as the subject matter expert for China product compliance, providing risk assessment, regulatory interpretation, and practical guidance to internal teams and external partners to enable compliant and timely market entry.
This role plays a critical part in supporting business growth in China by mitigating regulatory risk, managing compliance issues through to closure, and liaising with regulators, test houses, and industry bodies as required.
Key Responsibilities
Support and improve product compliance processes, solutions, and systems in China.
Work with Global Compliance Team on product testing process implementation, risk assessment, policy and process document preparation, test protocol development with internal stakeholders and external technical partners for the China market. Update existing WB T&R protocols, as necessary.
Evaluate applicable product compliance regulations, standards, labelling requirements and best practices in China and implement changes as needed with the Global Compliance Team.
Develop and maintain China specific processes, guidance, and applicable training documents as part of global packaging and labelling in accordance with regulatory standards.
Performs safety and quality review of products, packaging and labeling for potential claims or other regulatory issues for the China market. Provides direction to internal clients and vendors on product classification and compliance documentation requirements.
Communicates and document potential non-compliance or regulatory issues. Ensure identified issues are addresses, tracked, remediated, and monitored for closure. Assist in the investigation and resolution of relevant compliance concerns as needed.
Review product testing, technical files and labelling alongside Global Compliance Team.
Act as China specific subject matter resource to Product Retail team regarding appropriate statutory, regulatory and product safety requirements.
Support our legal teams and senior management in responding to litigation and claims issues.
Lead and implementation of recall policy in China.
Able to develop or have strong working relationships with applicable regulatory agencies, market organisations and test houses to ensure product compliance in China. Liaise as needed with regulators.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant technical, scientific, or regulatory discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
Experience
2+ years of direct experience in international regulations pertaining to consumer products (including CPSIA, China-REACH, China-RoHS, CCC Mark, NRTL certifications, CE Mark, etc.) is strongly preferred.
Experience in Product Safety, Quality Assurance in industry. Should include product testing process implementation, risk assessment, policy and process document preparation, test protocol development with internal stakeholders and external technical partners.
Knowledge/Skills/Attributes
Sound commercial acumen and a genuine interest in the retail market.
Demonstrated knowledge of international regulations and standards across multiple product categories.
Ability to work within global teams
Self-motivated, accountable, driven to initiate, plan, resource, and complete projects.
Critical thinking ability, and flexibility to adapt in changing circumstances
Strong decision-making skills, including the ability to conduct fact finding, interpret data and negotiations
Work independently and alongside Global Compliance Ream in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects and once
Mandarin Chinese and English written and spoken language required
