Job Description
Summary: The Town Of Glastonbury is seeking a Program Specialist to facilitate specialized programs for older adults under the supervision of the Senior Center Supervisor. This part-time role involves leading program activities, arranging equipment and supplies, and maintaining records of activities.
Responsibilities:
- Leads participants in program activities and events in order to facilitate program objectives and maximize benefit to participants
- Arranges equipment setup, supplies and materials
- Maintains records and statistics of activities
- Performs other duties as required
- Maintains confidentiality of records and information as appropriate
- Observes safe work practices
- Represents the Town in a professional and courteous manner at all times
- Regularly attends and is punctual for work
Required Qualifications:
- Ability to work collaboratively with others
- Ability to communicate effectively, verbally
- Ability to provide a supportive, encouraging environment for program participants
- Knowledge of computers and software applications for data entry
- Skilled in understanding others' reactions to interactions and activities, through direct observation, inquiry and active listening
- Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer service, including needs assessment, meeting quality service standards, and evaluating customer satisfaction
- Ability to push/pull/lift objects of up to 20 pounds, occasionally
- Ability to sit or stand, frequently; walk for prolonged periods of time or stoop, occasionally
- Ability to perform manipulative skills such as keyboarding or filing
- Ability to see objects closely as in typing a document or reading a report; hear normal sounds with background noise, distinguish voice patterns and communicate with speech as in using a telephone
- Ability to concentrate on moderate detail with some interruption, attend to task 60 minutes or more, remember multiple tasks/assignments given to self and others over long periods; understand and relate to specific ideas, generally, several at a time
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with older adults in social work, daycare, long-term care, or recreational setting
