Job Description
Summary: Tesla Inc. is seeking a Content Editor to join our Diagnostic Content team in Palo Alto, CA. The role involves partnering with engineering and quality teams to create and edit diagnostic content for technicians and customers, ensuring the information is accurate and accessible.
Responsibilities:
- Partner with engineering, quality, and product support teams to create and update diagnostic content for use by non-engineers — including technicians, third-party repair shops, and customers
- Edit and author across multiple content surfaces, including the diagnostic knowledge base, firmware metadata (alerts, signals, diagnostic routines, user-facing text), Theory of Operation documentation, and customer-facing alert content
- Apply AI tools and editorial automation to scale review and authoring throughput, and contribute to the team's growing library of LLM-assisted workflows
- Validate technical accuracy through structured routing and review workflows, including pull request approvals for content stored in version control
- Enforce and evolve organization-wide style standards, including the externalization standards that govern which content is shared with third parties
- Organize content for discoverability and diagnostic flow — including managing categorization, taxonomies, and the causal relationships between articles that drive guided troubleshooting
- Support content localization across multiple regions
- Manage tasks and information flow using collaboration software such as Jira, Confluence, and GitHub
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's in English, Rhetoric and Composition, Technical / Professional Writing, Journalism, Communications, or relevant working experience
- 1-3 years of working experience in a related field
- Demonstrated experience using AI tools (such as ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot, or comparable LLMs) to draft, edit, or review content — and a willingness to develop, test, and refine prompt-driven editorial workflows for the team
- Ability to edit and create documentation that is accurate, complete, clear, specific, and as concise as possible
- Ability to explain technical concepts to peers, people from various parts of the organization, non-technical people, and third-party consumers
- Can extract and comprehend system operation from typical engineering documentation from both a software and mechanical perspective (e.g., schematics, subsystem specification documents, and source-controlled metadata)
- Comfortable working in a docs-as-code environment — editing Markdown or structured content in version control, opening and reviewing pull requests, and merging through approval workflows
- Excellent analytical, attention-to-detail, troubleshooting, problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills
- Elevated level of interpersonal communication skills
- Strong capacity for both logical and creative thinking
- Must be organized, detail-oriented, and able to multi-task and evaluate priorities
- Self-directed and able to work independently with minimal supervision
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with docs-as-code tooling: Git, Markdown, MkDocs, or comparable static site generators
- Familiarity with SQL or data visualization platforms (such as Superset or Tableau) for monitoring content health and prioritizing review work
- Experience with Python for editorial automation or scripting
- Familiarity with structured authoring formats (HTML, XML, DITA, JSON)
- Previous work experience with vehicle diagnostics, vehicle maintenance, or troubleshooting manuals
- Experience supporting content localization or partnering with translation teams
