Job Description
Project Lead - Event Infrastructure
Location: Melbourne VIC
At Tennis Australia, we’re creating a more playful world through tennis – for everyone. From grassroots to Grand Slams, tennis brings people together, inspires communities, and builds champions on and off the court.
We’re a team of imaginative and passionate people who believe in the power of sport to make a difference.
Want your chance to make a mark on a world-class, record-breaking event? We are hiring for Project Leads – Event Infrastructure to join our Infrastructure team to deliver AO27! These are full-time fixed-term contracts from July/August 2026 to March 2027.
As these are seasonal roles, we require full availability and flexibility across the contracted period. If you're ready to help us serve up real impact, we’d love to hear from you!
We’re committed to reflecting the communities we work and play in. We strongly encourage applications from women, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, LGBTQI+ individuals, people with disability, and people from culturally diverse backgrounds.
About the role
Working closely with the infrastructure leadership team, in this role, you will take ownership of delivering the temporary structures and services that underpin one of the world's greatest sporting events. Your responsibilities will span overlay planning and design, procurement and supplier management, onsite construction delivery, budget tracking, and ensuring all health, safety, and building compliance standards are met.
At its core, this role is about more than just delivering infrastructure, it’s about championing the F.I.R.S.T. principles that define the AO build culture: Fun, Inclusivity, Respect, Safety, and Teamwork. You’ll help bring these values to life on site and contribute to creating a collaborative, safe, and high-performing environment for everyone involved in the build of the Happy Slam!
In this role you will:
Lead the end-to-end delivery of temporary infrastructure, from overlay planning and procurement through to installation, operation, and removal.
Work closely with internal stakeholders to develop overlay requirements, assess infrastructure options, and ensure projects are delivered on time, on budget, and to specification.
Manage supplier contracts and procurement processes, ensuring supply chain adequacy, adherence to procurement guidelines, and that all infrastructure is delivered and removed in accordance with agreed readiness and hand-back dates.
Contribute to the Master Build Schedule and assist with the preparation of bump-in and bump-out plans.
Monitor budgets, track expenditure, identify variances and cost saving opportunities, and support purchase order creation and account reconciliation.
Ensure all site activities meet health and safety, POPE and BPC building compliance, and quality requirements.
About you
To be successful in this role you will:
Experience in major event overlay planning, infrastructure delivery, or event operations, with a strong understanding of delivering temporary infrastructure projects from concept to completion.
Confidence reading, interpreting, and working from design drawings, site plans, and overlay documentation.
Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to coordinate suppliers, contractors, consultants, and internal teams across a fast-paced event environment.
Experience developing construction and build timelines, with a sound understanding of overlay sequencing and site logistics.
The ability to prepare clear and detailed technical scopes for procurement and contractor engagement.
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt quickly in a dynamic event environment.
A collaborative mindset with the ability to build strong working relationships across teams and suppliers.
Highly organised and detail-focused, with experience managing timelines, budgets, reporting, and competing priorities.
The ability to remain calm under pressure and contribute positively within a high-performing team environment.
What’s to love?
Career development with a range of formal education and on the job training opportunities
Tickets to the Australian Open
