Job Description
Summary: Sungrow North America is a leading provider of renewable energy solutions, specializing in photovoltaic inverters and energy storage systems. They are seeking an Interconnection Modeling Intern to support interconnection modeling for Battery Energy Storage System projects, assisting in model development, compliance, and collaboration with engineering teams.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in developing, maintaining, updating, and validating BESS interconnection models
- Support power system studies such as load flow, short circuit, dynamic simulations, and transient stability analyses
- Help with model testing, debugging, and validation activities
- Develop Python scripts to automate PSCAD and PSS®E simulation workflows
- Contribute to automation frameworks for benchmarking, packaging, and version control
- Assist in preparing modeling deliverables for utility, ISO, and regulatory approval processes
- Help review and interpret interconnection requirements across North American markets
- Support benchmarking of PSCAD and PSS®E results with product specifications
- Help troubleshoot discrepancies in model responses
- Help maintain internal documentation, modeling guidelines, and revision tracking
- Assist with repository management for modeling artifacts and datasets
- Coordinate with internal engineering teams and support communication with external partners
Required Qualifications:
- Actively pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
- Strong foundation in power system modeling and inverter-based resource behavior
- Experience with PSCAD, PSS®E, and PSLF
- Python proficiency for automation and data processing
- Strong analytical and communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Coursework or experience in transmission interconnection, BESS/PV modeling, protection studies
- Familiarity with ISO/RTO requirements
- Exposure to PSCAD control modeling or PSS®E user-written models
