Job Description
Summary: The State of Minnesota is committed to equity and inclusion, and they are seeking a Legal Assistant – Accommodations Specialist to support the administration of reasonable accommodation requests and ADA-related inquiries. This role involves managing communications regarding equal opportunity complaints and providing technical support throughout the accommodation process.
Responsibilities:
- Create and maintain case files, track requests and complaints in the case management system, conduct intake interviews, and prepare summaries and recommendations regarding appropriate handling, including referral, informal resolution, or further review
- Provide administrative and technical support throughout the life cycle of accommodation requests and complaints
- Assist with coordination, documentation, and close-out activities to ensure compliance with applicable state and federal equal opportunity laws and regulations
Required Qualifications:
- One year of experience in equal opportunity, affirmative action, ADA compliance, disability services, or related field, which provide an understanding of civil rights and/or nondiscrimination laws
- Knowledge of Title I and Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) as well as other related Federal and State civil rights laws and policies
- Project management skills sufficient to coordinate multiple priorities, track progress, and ensure objectives, timelines, and outcomes are reviewed and/or processed in a timely manner
- Advise management, employees, and/or other professionals regarding the policies, practices, and programs
- Research and analysis sufficient to make recommendations determining whether an accommodation is reasonable or an undue hardship
Preferred Qualifications:
- Higher education degree in human resources, organizational management, or a related field
- ADA Coordinator Certificate or other related ADA certifications
- Knowledge of the Minnesota Government Data Practices Act
- Trained in mediation or alternative dispute resolution techniques
- Preferred candidates will have a variety of experiences working effectively with others from different backgrounds and cultures
