Job Description
Summary: Soaring Aerospace is a startup drone logistics company with ties to Caltech and MIT. They are seeking a capable intern to assist with control software related to aerodynamic flight operations.
Required Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's program in Aerospace or Aeronautical Engineering, with at least third-year standing. Master's and PhD students will also be considered
- Completed coursework in aerodynamics, propulsion systems, and flight mechanics, including exposure to common aerospace materials such as composites and aluminum alloys
- Strong background in computational fluid dynamics (CFD)
- Proficiency with CAD tools and scripting
- Proven ability to analyze aircraft aerodynamic and propulsive performance
- Excellent written communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Academic background or coursework in rotorcraft aerodynamics
- Hands-on experience with rotorcraft aerodynamic modeling, including wake modeling, load analysis, free wake simulation, and performance prediction
- Familiarity with rotorcraft sizing and performance prediction methods
- Experience with blade element modeling tools such as Flightlab, CHARM, or RCAS
- Practical engineering experience through student competition teams (e.g., AUVSI SUAS, SAE Aero Design, or Formula SAE)
- Candidates who have delivered results under tight timelines and resource constraints are strongly encouraged to apply
