Job Description
Serko is a cutting-edge tech platform in global business travel & expense technology. When you join Serko, you become part of a team of passionate travellers and technologists bringing people together, using the world’s leading business travel marketplace. We are proud to be an equal opportunity employer. We embrace the richness of diversity, showing up authentically to create a positive impact. There's an exciting road ahead of us, where travel needs real, impactful change.
With offices in New Zealand, Australia, North America, Bengaluru and China, we value hiring people from different backgrounds, experiences, abilities, and perspectives to help us build a world-class team and product.
Make an Impact
As a Senior Cloud Engineer, you are an experienced individual contributor designing, implementing, and managing the cloud-based infrastructure and platforms that Serko's products run on. You bring a deep understanding of the cloud technologies in use at Serko and use that experience to set technical direction, not just execute against it.
You collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimise our cloud services, establish best practices, and keep security and cost-efficiency front of mind. You are comfortable scoping initiatives and delivering independently - and just as comfortable guiding and mentoring other engineers through complex problems in your area. You lead by example: shipping high-quality work, lifting the people around you, and shaping how the team operates.
What you will be doing
Cloud & Infrastructure Excellence
- Design & Deliver: Design, deploy, monitor, manage, maintain, and troubleshoot Serko's cloud infrastructure across Azure and GCP.
- Scale & Optimise: Ensure our cloud infrastructure is cost-efficient and scales to handle our products' global web traffic and workloads.
- Reliability & Resilience: Contribute to the design and implementation of an engineering-wide Disaster Recovery strategy, and respond to and remediate incidents for components your team supports.
Automation & Platform Engineering
- Set the Strategy: Contribute to the design and implementation of an overarching automation strategy that minimises manual processes across the engineering organisation.
- Advocate Good Practices: Work with Principal Engineers to advocate good practices in tooling, deployment, infrastructure automation, provisioning, observability, and AI adoption.
- Enable Engineering Teams: Work closely with engineering and support teams to understand their requirements and provide the infrastructure and support their applications need - including deployment, monitoring, and troubleshooting.
- Build Together: Collaborate with engineering teams to build, deploy, monitor, and support the components they own.
Leadership & Knowledge Sharing
- Mentor & Grow: Actively contribute to the professional growth of other engineers at Serko, sharing knowledge and best practices to lift overall team capability.
- Document & Share: Maintain clear and up-to-date documentation of our cloud infrastructure, configurations, and processes.
- Stay Current: Keep up to date with the latest developments in cloud technologies and best practices relevant to the Serko tech stack, and bring that thinking back to the team.
What you'll bring
- Cloud Architecture Experience: Experience in cloud architecture design, with a clear understanding of the challenges and trade-offs when building and deploying systems to production.
- Modern Cloud Solutions: A track record of creating modern cloud-based solutions using industry best practices.
- Technology Stack: Must have - Azure/GCP/AWS, Docker, Kubernetes; Ideally - Pulumi, GitHub Enterprise and Actions, Sumo Logic, New Relic, or equivalent tools.
- IaC Expertise: Hands-on experience with at least one Infrastructure as Code tool.
- Coding & Scripting: Proficient in one of these languages - C#, Java, TypeScript, or Python.
- Application Awareness: A good understanding of application development, enough to genuinely support development teams rather than hand off at the boundary.
- Communication: Great verbal and written communication - you can explain complex technical decisions to engineers and non-engineers alike.
- Collaborative Spirit: Open to giving and receiving feedback, and committed to creating a safe and inclusive work environment.
Serko employees are rewarded for their efforts with good salaries, competitive benefits, flexible working arrangements and a great social atmosphere. We value people who have personal integrity, are adaptable, and are courageous with what they do. The pace is energetic. Serko employees work collaboratively with energy and enthusiasm - so you will want to be up for the ride. If you are up for a challenge at its most crucial time in history and are excited about joining our Xi'an team, we'd love to hear from you.
