Job Description
Summary: Burlington Community School District is offering a Building Maintenance Summer High School Intern position for students to gain real-life work experience through an on-the-job training program. The role involves completing building maintenance tasks and participating in career exploration activities while earning college credit.
Responsibilities:
- Complete 30 hours a week of on the job experience and assigned career/college exploration activities. (six weeks)
- Complete weekly reflection journals and weekly meetings with Internship Coordinator
- Submit a final presentation the last week of employment in either a PowerPoint format or a 2-4 page essay which highlights the student's key projects and contributions, skills developed and reflections on the internship experience, including how it supported professional growth, career readiness and long-term career goals in the field of STEM
- Become familiar with and follow general safety guidelines including use of personal protective equipment
- Building maintenance and routine building maintenance requests, HVAC Summer routine maintenance requests, and Electrical routine maintenance requests
Required Qualifications:
- Current Burlington High School Student
- Demonstrated interest in the career field
- Past coursework, experience, or demonstrated basic skills in the career field
- Must be able to use basic hand and power tools
- Must be able to read a tape measure within a quarter of an inch
- Ability to learn and work independently
- Ability to lift up to 75 pounds
- Ability to work from a ladder
- Ability to work outside in all climates
- Become familiar with and follow general safety guidelines including use of personal protective equipment

Preferred Qualifications:
- Based on the intent of the grant, preference will be given to underrepresented populations
