Job Description
Summary: Schnabel Engineering is an employee-owned engineering and consulting firm specializing in geotechnical, geostructural, tunnel, and dam engineering. The company is seeking a motivated Staff Geotechnical Engineer to supervise subsurface explorations, perform calculations for geotechnical designs, and support the preparation of geotechnical reports.
Responsibilities:
- Supervise subsurface explorations at project site
- Log test borings and other in-situ tests
- Use GIS and GPS to aid in planning and executing geotechnical field work
- Oversight of subcontractors including drillers, and traffic control
- Create basic plans and figures using AutoCAD and GIS
- Assign and review laboratory tests
- Perform calculations to support geotechnical designs
- Provide support on preparation of geotechnical reports and proposals
- Observe geotechnical-related construction and perform materials testing
- Plan and coordinate subsurface explorations and geotechnical testing field work
- Prepare field reports
Required Qualifications:
- 0-2 years of professional experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or related engineering field from an ABET accredited University
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Positive attitude
- Ability to multi-task
- Strong work ethic and a desire for continual self-improvement
- Willingness and ability to perform field work and travel, including assignments that may last several weeks to months away from the office
- Ability to lift 50 pounds and be physically able to negotiate construction sites, enter trenches, climb ladders and work outside
- Must possess Engineer in Training (EIT) certificate or have ability to obtain within 3 months of hire
- Must possess a valid driver's license as driving is an essential function of the job
- Ability to pass a background check which may include criminal history, motor vehicle record and credit check
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior internship or professional work in a related field (i.e. geotechnical engineering, construction, civil engineering, etc.)
- Master's degree in relevant field
